Long Beach resident Selma Wilson passed away peacefully on July 9 at age 87. Wilson is survived by her two sons, Steven and Paul, and her three grandchildren, Alex, Noah and Talia.

Wilson lived at 35 East Broadway for over 20 years. Her family said that living in the building was a comfort to her, and Wilson considered her neighbors part of her extended family, including her “bingo ladies,” who looked out for her on a daily basis. Her neighbor, Nancy, was with her daily in her final months, Wilson’s family said.

“We would also like to thank Billy Nusser, the superintendent of the building, who treated our mother like a queen,” Wilson’s children said.

Wilson worked until her mid-80s at the Hebrew Living Center.

“She loved being there and Armi loved having her there,” her children said. “This brought much joy to her life, which is why she never missed a day of work. We would like extend our appreciation and gratitude to Long Beach Fire Department firefighters Palacio and Jones for their heroic acts that kept our mother alive for a few more days. This gave us the time to say our proper goodbye.”

Wilson’s sons described her as a loving, caring, strong, and loyal woman, and “an over-the-top grandmother!”

“As a family, the first thing we will always recall when thinking of Selma is that together with our late father, Arthur, they did the best that they could and we love them eternally for it,” her children said. “She will be missed.”
