Still celebrating their grand opening, Asahi Hibachi Sushi, which has taken over the building that that once housed Charlie Brown’s, promises to be a grand addition to Lynbrook. Its renovated interior is exquisite, and the management team brings unique expertise. Long-time restaurateur, Sky, has relocated his Japanese restaurant from Louisiana, near New Orleans. His talented wife, Amy, oversees details, from interior design to events and the menu with help from manager Hay Chan. Sushi Chef Charles came to New York from their Louisiana restaurant, and Hibachi Chef Jone was a chef in Japan for over a decade.

Dine on traditional Japanese cuisine, choose items from the sushi bar, and/or experience a dazzling hibachi cook-at-the-grill-table production. No matter what type of food you order, you can sit in the dining room, at the sushi bar, in the hibachi room, or at the front bar. Servers are attentive, and management mingles with the customers.

Décor is chic and contemporary, yet warm and luxurious. Chairs and booths are of soft, creamy leather. Hanging beads are actually Swarovski crystals. Even tableware is remarkable — metal chopsticks trimmed with gold, sparkling woven placemats. Be observant (put your phone away!) and enjoy every element.

We opted for traditional dining in a cozy booth. Warm moist hand towels were offered, followed by hot sake, white Sangria laden with berries, and a plate of salted edamame. My list of recommendations is long because everything we tried was truly top notch. Fish was fresh and buttery … melt-in-your-mouth quality. Steak was extremely tender. Sauces were luscious yet never overpowered. Presentations were magnificent.
