Surfer’s Way to hold fundraiser at Seasons Asian Pan on Monday

Posted

Surfer’s Way — a non-profit organization that hosts several surf outings every year for children with special needs — will hold a fundraiser Monday night at Seasons Asian Pan,* at 36 W. Park Ave., from 6-9 p.m.

Founder Elliot Zuckerman also operates the Long Beach-based Surf 2 Live surf school and has been teaching the sport for more than 40 years. He began working with special needs children about 35 years ago when a parent asked him if he could teach their deaf child to surf.

Zuckerman founded Surfer’s Way a decade ago and has been formally instructing and empowering special needs surfers through the program ever since.

The Surfer’s Way outings typically attract about 200 surfers. The group’s next outing is on Aug. 17. All donations go toward funding the outings, a volunteer effort. Visit www.surfersway.org for more information.

*Note: The print version of this story incorrectly stated that Monday night’s fundraiser would take place at Billy’s Beach Café and that the next outing was scheduled for Aug. 19. We regret the errors.
