I kept telling myself that this wouldn’t be the end. We’d buy a new treadmill. We would run again. There would be a new cross-country season. My son would start his track club. No storm would defeat us.

Still, I hate the smell of Hurricane Sandy. Across the South Shore, it remains in the air to this day.
