City of Long Beach Communications Director Gordon Tepper, 32, has been named to the Long Island Business News 40 Under 40 class of 2013, a prestigious award that honors young business and community leaders. Since 1998, Long Island Business News has taken nominations for outstanding members of the business community on Long Island who are under the age of 40. These future leaders of Long Island have already begun to distinguish themselves in business, government, education, and the not-for-profit sector. The awards dinner is taking place on Thursday, Jan. 24 from 6-10 p.m. at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.

Before joining the city in 2011, Tepper previously served as the Marketing Director and Senior Communications Specialist for Long Island and New York City-based professional service firms. His areas of expertise include writing, media relations, and social networking. Prior to his communications career, he was an elementary school teacher on Long Island. While in college, Gordon interned in the New York Rangers public relations department at Madison Square Garden and was a member of the team’s game-night staff.

Tepper received a Bachelor of Science in Communications from the State University of New York and a Master of Science in Education from Hofstra University.
