Nassau County police arrested a Mastic Beach man on Monday after he allegedly beat and stabbed his girlfriend, stole her Honda and twice ran her over with it in Point Lookout.

The suspect, 35-year-old Brant Ovsianik, later attacked and injured an officer, swallowed pills and resisted arrest after police spotted the woman’s vehicle and pulled him over. He was arrested on multiple assault, drug and other charges.

According to police, the incident began when Ovsianik had a verbal argument with his 37-year-old girlfriend, who police did not identify, at her home on Lynbrook Avenue at 3 p.m.

When the argument escalated, police Ovsianik became agitated and slapped the woman across her face numerous times, causing bruising and pain to her forehead.

Later that day, police said he continued to yell at the victim and began striking her in the face with his hands and then slamming her head against the floor. Ovsianik then stabbed the victim in her left side with a screwdriver, police said.

“As the victim attempted to call for help the defendant began chocking her while covering her mouth, causing the victim to have difficulty breathing,” Nassau police said in a news release. “The victim then broke free and attempted to call 911 using her cell phone and house phone but the defendant broke both of them, preventing her from calling.”

Ovsianik then “jumped” into the victim’s 2013 Honda parked in the driveway, police said.

“The victim attempted to stop the defendant from taking her car by walking in front of the driveway, but the defendant backed the car into her,” police said. “The victim got out of the way after which the defendant backed the car up, put it in drive and drove into the victim again, causing her pain to both of her legs and feet. The defendant then drove away.”

Shortly after, Fourth Precinct police officers observed Ovsianik driving in the vicinity of Lido Boulevard and Lynbrook Avenue and stopped the vehicle.

As Ovsianik exited the vehicle, police said he struck one of the officers on the right side of his face.

“Officers then attempted to place the defendant under arrest at which time he prevented them from doing so by flailing his arms,” police said. “After a brief struggle, officers were able to place the defendant in custody.”

Police said Ovsianik was in possession of one sublingual strip and orange pills believed to be buprenorphine, a drug used to treat addiction to narcotic pain relievers; naloxone, a synthetic drug used to treat overdoses; and “a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.” Police said he was also found in possession of victim’s jewelry, cell phone and a gravity knife.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for injuries to his jaw and right wrist. Ovsianik, meanwhile, was taken to a nearby hospital and being evaluated for swallowing pills.

“The victim was also transported to a nearby hospital for her injuries and further evaluation and treatment,” police said.

Ovsianik remained in police custody on Tuesday and could not be reached for comment. Police said he would be arraigned when “medically practical.” A defense attorney had yet to be named Tuesday, according to online court documents.

Ovsianik was charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of unlawful possession of marijuana, one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of third-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, one count of resisting arrest, one count of third-degree criminal mischief, two counts fourth-degree criminal mischief, one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, one count of third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle, one count of leaving the scene of an incident, one count of operating a motor vehicle without a license and one count of criminal obstruction of breathing/blood circulation.
