— Landscaping a Healthy Long Beach
Thursday, May 31 at 7 p.m. in the Long Beach Public Library, 111 W. Park Ave. Learn how you can landscape a healthier Long Beach for your family and pets. The city of Long Beach and Perfect Earth Project partnered to host a seminar that will discuss best practices for sustainable planting, watering and maintenance of your lawn and garden.
— Pride Flag Raising
Join Long Beach City Council members, other officials and the LBNY-Arts Council for the raising of the rainbow flag to kickoff Long Island Pride weekend. The event will take place at the flagpole in Kennedy Plaza outside City Hall at 1 W. Chester St. at 6 p.m. There will be a steel pan drummer and guitarist, and the First Fridays+ Bridgeworks event will immediately follow.

Artists in Partnership, the LBNY-Arts Council and the city teamed up to host the final First Fridays event of the year. Come to Bridgeworks, located at 780 Long Beach Blvd., at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 1 to hear music performed by steel pan drummer Lyndon Achee and see a special dance performance and lesson presented by Dance Aloha. A bit of the Wild West returns to Old Bethpage Village, Sunday, June 3, at 11 a.m. Watch modern day cowboys show off their skills in a horse mounted shooting competition, based on historic shooting events held at Wild West Shows in the late 19th century.
