Lawrence High School students Danielle Hance and John Loughlin Jr. placed in the top 10 in the exam and presentation portion while placing sixth and seventh, respectively overall in the Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling category at the DECA State Career Conference in upstate Rochester, March 6 to 9.

The students will advance to the international level in Atlanta in April. Amil Virani also placed in the top 10 of the exam portion of the Financial Consulting category.

This is the 13th year that Lawrence DECA students will be competing internationally and the second time a freshman — this year Hance — accomplished this level. Three years ago Jessica Beyer and Jonathan Rutchick were able to make it to this level.

“The great thing I have to look forward to as we continue on to next year is that everyone on this trip has the ability to compete again next year as this group contains no seniors,” said Mark Albin, a Lawrence High business teacher who serves as the club’s adviser. “With two different kids making it the last two years this sets up for a nice big group for Orlando next year. My record group number was seven, which was in Orlando seven years ago.”
