Stepping Out

A tribute to the 'piano man'

Mike DelGuidice and Big Shot open Madison Theatre's new season on Sept. 7

In Concert

Mike DelGuidice and Big Shot

Those familiar tunes that are the soundtrack for so many of us take on new life with Mike DelGuidice and Big Shot’s “Ultimate Billy Joel Experience.” The singer-songwriter, himself a “piano man,” leads his band, Big Shot, in a rousing concert that highlights Billy Joel’s decades of songwriting. And for some added fun, their set includes songs from other artists thrown in for good measure. You’ll hear favorites from Paul McCartney, Elton John, The Beatles, Journey and songs from DelGuidice’s original CDs. Current members of Joel’s band — guitarist Tommy Byrnes and drummer Chuck Burgi — also lend their talents to the show. Byrnes is a 23-year veteran of Joel’s band and Burgi has been his drummer since 2005. Burgi was also seen on Broadway as an original cast member of the acclaimed musical “Movin’ Out.” Richie Cannata, Joel’s original saxophonist from 1975 to 1982, who was part of Joel’s record setting 12-show run at Madison Square Garden in 2006, also participates. It’s an evening that will have everyone in a “New York State of Mind.”

Saturday, Sept. 7, 8 p.m. $20, $5 students. Madison Theatre, Molloy College, 1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre. (516) 678-5000 ext. 7715 or
