Arrested for weapon possession in Lynbrook

A Baldwin man was arrested in Lynbrook last Sunday for criminal possession of a weapon when he was stopped by a Lynbrook police officer for speeding.
According to Nassau County Fourth Squad detectives, Shane A. Price, 18, of Northern Boulevard, Baldwin was travelling westbound on Merrick Road at 12:32 a.m. near N. Prospect Ave.
A further investigation led to the discovery of marijuana, a Lorcin Model L380 pistol, and a loaded magazine for the firearm.
Price was placed under arrest at the scene without incident. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree, unlawful possession of marijuana, and in violation of the posted speed limit. He was arraigned on Nov. 8 at First District Court in Hempstead.


Police warn of lottery letter scam


On Oct. 28, a woman reported that she received a letter and a check in the mail indicating that she was a lottery winner and instructions to contact Shaw Financial Incorporated. A male then instructed her to deposit the check in her banking account and then wire $8,950.00 via Western Union to Kingston, Jamaica in order to receive her winnings. The initial check received in the mail was later determined to be fraudulent. The total loss is valued at $8,950.
Lynbrook police advise that this is a scam, and anyone receiving a similar letter should contact their local police department.

Arrests

On Oct. 29 at 12:20 p.m., a 42-year-old woman of Woodbury was arrested on an open felony warrant for dangerous drugs, sale of Hydrocodone and sale of Oxycodone from Palm Beach County, Florida, and was charged in Lynbrook with being a fugitive from justice.

On Nov. 2 at 3:50 p.m., a 17-year-old Lynbrook youth was arrested in the vicinity of Ocean Avenue and charged with criminal possession of controlled substance (Tylenol with codeine), unlawful possession of marijuana, speeding in a posted zone and operating an uninspected vehicle.

A 35-year-old man, of Freeport was arrested on Nov. 3 at 7:09 p.m., and charged with harassment for an incident that occurred at a residence on Merrick Road.
