Lynbrook police rounds lead to arrest

Man in possession of cash, keys, cell phones, watches

Lynbrook Police Officer Joseph Cosenza was enforcing overnight parking restrictions in the Village of Lynbrook at 3:54 a.m. on Aug. 26, when he came upon a 2010 white Jeep Grand Cherokee, parked on Summit Ave. in Lynbrook. 

Cosenza ran the vehicle registration and found the vehicle to be reported stolen from West Hempstead on Aug. 24.

Lynbrook police officers decided to conduct surveillance on the stolen vehicle and soon after, officer Eric Bruen observed Charles Bell in vicinity of the vehicle. When Bell observed Bruen he fled on foot on Summit Avenue, hiding in the driveway of a residence on Sherman Street at the corner of Summit. It was there that officers found Bell hiding behind a garbage can. He was in possession of various pairs of sunglasses, paper money, loose change, a cell phone, iPods, two mens’ watches, assorted keys, a Jeep ignition key fob and assorted other items.  

Bell was placed under arrest, and a subsequent investigation disclosed that he had stolen the items found on his person from vehicles that were parked unlocked in area driveways. 

Bell, 31, a Hempstead resident, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and two counts of larceny.

Arrests

At 12:45 a.m on August 26, a 36-year-old man of Long Beach, was arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired, Failed to Signal and Equipment Violation on Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook

A 31-year-old of Hempstead, was arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Property (2 counts) and Petit Larceny (2 counts) on Sherman Street in Lynbrook at 4:59 a.m. on August 26.

At 7:00 p.m. on August 26, 22-year-old of Oceanside, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (2 counts), False Personation, Leaving the Scene of an Auto Accident, Operate a Motor Vehicle while using a Hand Held Cell Phone and Circumvention of Interlock Device at Lynbrook Police Department Headquarters.

A 19-year-old of Lynbrook, was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass on Forest Avenue in Lynbrook at 11:12 p.m. on August 26.
