East Rockaway Chief Steven Torborg

East Rockaway Fire Chief Steven Torborg resigned earlier this week, with just a little more than two weeks left in his term.

“It’s been a honor and a privilege to serve as the chief of the department,” Torborg told the Herald. “My resignation was for personal reasons.”

According to sources, the fire counsel was to meet on Tuesday night and would make decisions as to what will happen next. As of now, 1st Assistant Chief Ed Reicherter is acting chief.

A source at Village Hall said that Mayor Francis T. Lenahan would not be making any comment at this time until proper protocol is followed.

What is the "proper protocol" required to make a comment?

I think it works like this: You open your mouth, lips begin moving.

2 weeks left to his term? This sounds fishy. How about the Herald do a little bit of investigative journalism and find out what everyone wants to know - WHY?!
