Fire extinguished in Scranton Avenue home

Lynbrook firefighters, under the command of First Assistant Chief Carl Lengel, extinguished a fire in the rear wall and floor of a house at 316 Scranton Ave. on Monday afternoon.

The homeowner called the fire department after coming home and finding the house filled with smoke. Firefighters found that an electrical short in a junction box in a crawl space caused a fire under the floor and it spread up the wall.

The fire was extinguished with one hose line and firefighters were on the scene for about 40 minutes.
