Hello, Lynbrook and East Rockaway!

Meet your new community reporter

Posted

My name is Brendan Murray, the newest reporter for the Lynbrook/East Rockaway Herald. I am eager to get started, and I’m excited to learn more about this community and all of you.

I graduated this May from Stonehill College, in Massachusetts, with a bachelor’s degree in English and Journalism. I began writing for the Summit, the College’s campus newspaper, in my sophomore year as a reporter for the news, sports, and opinion sections. I continued as a reporter for the rest of my time at Stonehill, becoming the news editor in my senior year. I spent last summer covering college and professional sports for the Boston Herald, and I covered high school sports this winter for HockomockSports.com.

During my time as a reporter and editor for the Summit, I learned how rewarding and challenging it can be to cover news for a small, tightly knit community, and I cannot wait to get started with East Rockaway and Lynbrook.

While I spent my college years near Boston, I am still a born and bred New Yorker. I graduated from Kellenberg Memorial High School, and spend most of my time keeping up with the Yankees, Giants, Islanders, and Nets.

I am so looking forward to learning all about your communities and their rich histories. If you see me around town, please stop and introduce yourself, since I always love to spend time with new people — especially our readers. Feel free to call me at (516) 569-4000 ext. 283, or email me any time at bmurray@liherald.com to share any interesting tips, announcements or stories. See you around!
