Letters to the Editor: Don’t abuse free parking

To the Editor:

I’m back on my bandwagon, but this time to benefit the RVC retailers. I was in town on Saturday and out shopping between 9 a.m. and noon.

The free parking — if taken by shoppers — would be wonderful. But instead what I saw was dress shop employees parking in front of the Village Framer and three real estate people on different blocks taking up different parking spots.

If you really want to help the retailer, you certainly can offer free parking and you should for the whole week — or even all of December. But make it an hour or two hours. What this system has done is tied up certain spots for more than six hours on all of South and North Village Avenue.

I should also mention that I visited Rockville Hardware and he had the same problems. Because I walk, I stayed in town. But if I were in my car, I might have shopped elsewhere.

Just a thought for what might work to everyone’s benefit — the shoppers and the retailers — in the future. It’s embarrassing that so many employees and owners abuse this system. This is nothing new, but to the conscientious retailer, it’s a make-or-break situation, especially at the holidays.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.
