This year’s 10th annual New York Mets Lynbrook Community Night celebration was held recently at Citi Field Stadium.

This annual event brings together more than 1,500 children, parents, residents and merchants to spend an evening watching the New York Mets vs the Phillies, and witness the excitement of 500-plus Lynbrook Little Leaguers march onto the field for the exciting pre-game festivities.

The Lynbrook Fire Department’s Color Guard marched and performed in centerfield during the singing of the national anthem, and all of the Lynbrook Little League players and the two foul poles.

The honorees

The Lynbrook Little League presents the Community Spirit Award annually to those who best exemplify Lynbrook’s community spirit. The recipients are selected based on enthusiasm, contribution, dedication, and being an inspiration to others. It honors those who have made a significant difference in their community.

The award is presented each year at Citi Field Stadium, in cooperation with the NY Mets organization, on Lynbrook Night — where over 1,000 Lynbrookites enjoyed a night out to watch a Mets game.

The Mets organization celebrates the Lynbrook Little League  with a pre-game ceremony of  Little League members and their proud parents marching through center field, led by the Lynbrook Fire Department color guard.

The evening included a special presentation at home plate to the recipients of the 2015 Lynbrook Community Spirit Award. This year’s recipients were Little league Manager Steve Schneider, Ronald Merrow of Sunrise Volkswagen, Village Administrator John Giordano, Police Officer Harold Comastri, Fire Department Ex-Chief Mike Andersen and Suffolk Legislator Tom Cilmi.

The New York Mets select the recipients of the Community Service Award from nominations provided by Lynbrook Little League.

The Spirit Award Program also recognizes those for their exemplary actions in following the community’s small town values and providing exceptional service through performance by acting with integrity, being responsible, taking innovative action, and promoting teamwork.

Little League treasurer Nick Deninno threw out the first pitch.
