Hofstra hosts pageant for its 30th anniversary event

The non-profit organization Ethel Bennett's Ms. NY Senior America, held its annual pageant last Sunday for women over 60 — the ‘Age of Elegance.’

The winner of the competition was C.J. Marie, of North Bellmore. Marie wowed the audiences and the judges with her talent, a beautifully crafted and choreographed dance, “One Moment in Time.”

The first runner up was Mary Lou Zobel, of Medford, who sang “O Mio Babbino.”

The others who placed were Herald editor Mary Malloy, who took 2nd runner up and was chosen as Ms. Congeniality by her fellow contestants. The 3rd runner-up was Kathleen Castano, of Huntington; and 4th runner-up was Janet Mandel, of New York City.

Rounding out the contestants were Linda Smith, of Smithtown, Ruth Hunt, of Cambria Heights, and Debbie Hambel of Oceanside.

The contestants were judge on their private interviews with the judges (30 percent), their philosophy of life (30 percent), the evening gown (20 percent), and thei talent (20 percent).

The pageant featured The Seasoned Steppers dance troupe, choreographed by Marianne Stahl. The organization’s State Director, Marleen Schuss, and her granddaughter, Chiara Klein, the pageant’s producer, hosted the event.

Outgoing Queen Jane Rubenstein, of Merrick, crowned Marie.
