Officials react to Coliseum proposals
Christina Daly/Herald
The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale may soon be undergoing redevelopment.

When asked for comment, Daniel Kazin, a spokesperson for Democratic County Executive candidate Tom Suozzi, said in a statement, “Ed Mangano has yet to propose a plan for economic development for our county. What we need is real development that keeps young people in Nassau, broadens our tax base, and creates the ideal suburb for the long term.”

Adam Haber, another Democratic candidate for county executive, said in a statement, “Mangano asked the guy who stole the Islanders to lead this project, that is like buying your house back from the person who foreclosed on you. Any plan to redevelop the Coliseum and create the Hub needs to include a professional sports franchise, affordable housing and a convention center.”

Strange how T.O.H. seems very willing to deal with whomever wins this RFP, yet in the case of the last County RFP winner, Charles Wang, T.O.H. Supervisor refused to sit down and negotiate his offer of a scaled back Lighthouse, claiming "Conflict of interest"?

This, despite the fact that his proposal called for spending 3 billion dollars of private funding. Too bad we had to lose L.I.'s only major sports franchise and now get a "scaled down" coliseum. Talk about promoting private development.
