Pool fees to increase by $15 this year in Valley Stream

The board of trustees voted to increase pool membership fees on Feb. 13 — the first increase in the last five years.

“Prices haven’t gone up in five years, so they thought this was a timely decision,” said Tom Roberts, the recreation supervisor for the village, of the board. The price of a family pool membership had been $250 since 2012.

According to Mayor Ed Fare, the increase in costs is due to the newer structures at the pool including a shade structure, showers, and a new bathroom for those with disabilities. These projects were paid for in previous budgets, he said, but these new facilities increase the operating costs.

“Now it’s an improved facility and we look to balance current operating expenses with revenue,” Fare said. “Even with these modest increase, we are still a better value than our surrounding community.”

The pool is scheduled to open on June 10.
