Summer bible camp a hit

The camp’s doors were open not just members of the church, however, but to anyone in Lynbrook or the surrounding neighborhoods. Of the 20 young people who attended, only half of them were members of the church. Kennedy said that he hoped the time spent at the camp would bring members of different congregations closer. “I really was glad to have members of other congregations, other churches at the camp,” Kennedy said, “we all really should be working together.”

The camp seemed to be a hit with kids, with Kennedy saying that he noticed an interesting reaction as week came to a close. “On Friday, many of our kids seemed genuinely upset to be ending. I really think they got a lot out of their time here.”

The camp was celebrated at the Sunday Aug. 10 worship, with campers getting a chance to show what the week had taught them. “I figured that the congregation gets to hear me talk more than enough,” said Kennedy, “so I let the kids take over my sermon at Sunday’s worship service. They sang songs and shared what they learned at the camp.”

Kennedy said that he hopes the camp grows as begins to plan for the camp’s second year. “We’ll definitely have the camp again next summer with a new theme. Hopefully the word will get out that Lynbrook Lutheran has a great program and we can have even more participation from both inside and outside the congregation.”
