Town of Hempstead incumbents easily hold their seats

With all Town of Hempstead districts reporting, Republicans incumbents easily held their seats in Tuesday’s election.

Unofficial results late Tuesday had incumbent Kate Murray defeater challenger Felix Procacci 97,456 to 46,973 (67 percent to 33 percent).

“What a great night it is to be a Republican," Murray said. "What a great night it is to be a Nassau County Republican.”

Incumbent Town Council members Anthony Santino (R-East Rockaway), Gary Hudes (R-Levittown) and Dorothy Goosby (D-Hempstead) handily defeated their challengers. Santino beat newcomer Patrick Gillespie 71 percent to 29 percent (18,498 votes to 7,641). Hudes defeated Democratic challenger Diane Madden 71 percent to 29 percent (20,024 to 8,005), while Goosby beat Republican Elton McCabe 89 percent to 11 percent (13,324 to 1,723).

The race for Town Clerk was much closer. Nasrin Ahmad, the current acting Clerk, defeated her challenger Jasmine Garcia Vieux 71,334 to 65,800 (52 percent to 48 percent).
