The school year may have come to an end last month, and while there are far less tests being taken and homework assignments being given in the summer months, that doesn’t mean no one’s getting work done at Marion Street Elementary School.
Work began on June 24 on the district’s new multi-sport, artificial-turf field, which was part of a $5.6 million proposition that was approved last June by the Lynbrook community. Also included in the proposition was the resodding of the athletic field at North Middle School and the relocation of the baseball field at South Middle School.
The grass on the Marion Street field has been ripped up and the field is now being prepared for new foundational work. There are fences around the field to prevent people from getting injured since it is an active construction site, Superintendent Dr. Melissa Burak said.
“We want this project to be proceed without any security issues,” she said. “When fully completed, it will be a wonderful field for our teams. All will be able to enjoy watching games on this professional looking site.”
