Amy Holler, Geraldine Coney and Roberta Lutz admired the workmanship of the blankets.

Stitches from the Heart, a group of volunteers who donate their time and talent for to create beautiful blankets and other items for servicemen and women in three Washington, D.C. area hospitals, donated 250 blankets to the Nassau County-Operation Wounded Warrior program in a presentation held in the Lynbrook Public Library on Oct. 3.

This presentation has been done by Stitches from the Heart for the last seven years, with increased number of blankets created and donated each year.

“The women each included holiday notes and cards with the blankets,” said Lynbrook resident Barbara Barnhart, a longtime member of Stitches from the Heart, who was recently named the organization’s vice president of operations for the East Coast. “They also created take-home blankets for the men and women who will be going home.”

Barnhart added that NC-OWW also collects toiletries; clean sweat pants and shirts, socks and other much-needed items. “And we’re always looking for new members to come and join us, “ she said.
