What a year it was!

Just by its geographic location, East Rockaway suffered more overall damage than Lynbrook, so that’s where many of our stories took us in the last two months. But Lynbrookites rose to the occasion by volunteering, raising money, collecting much-needed supplies, sending firefighters and DPW workers and their trucks, and acting like a kindly and compassionate neighbor to a community that they sometimes jokingly refer to as “South Lynbrook.”

So keep sending us your birth, wedding and graduation announcements, your reunion stories, your heartwarming volunteer experiences, your (signed) letters to the editor (we love those!) and your “friend-ship” on Facebook. We don’t charge for any of these, ever. We strive to be interactive and informative and hopefully memorable. Contact me at (516) 569-4000 ext. 202 or Mmalloy@liherald.com. On Facebook, search “Lynbrook/East Rockaway Herald” and friend us.

Newspapers are not dying. We are not going the way of the dinosaurs, nor are we ready to give up the printing press or the face-to-face interview. We value your readership, and hope to continue it into 2013 and beyond. Thank you, and have a happy and a healthy new year!
