Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce seeks to thrill guests at Expo

The Expo started 28 years ago as a way to promote everything that Lynbrook has to offer.

“We wanted to provide something for the community, something for all people,” said Carol Burak, the president of the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the event.

This year’s Expo will take place this Saturdday (Sept. 23) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Greis Park. It will feature bouncy rides and a new drone demonstration. Burak said that SKYSCENE Area Media Services Virtual Reality called the chamber and asked to be a part of the event and display their drones. “They wanted to come, and we said definitely come,” she recalled.

Drones will not be the only things in the sky. A Blackhawk helicopter will make landfall at the Expo between 10:30 and 11 a.m.

There will be plenty of fun on the ground, too. Between 10 and 15 antique vehicles will be displayed, and horses are scheduled to gallop around at 11:30 a.m. The Knights of Columbus Maris Stella Council 2228 will also be serving hotdogs and hamburgers to guests.

Attendees can also purchase books from the Lynbrook Public Library for as little as 25 cents. “We try to be involved in the community as much as we can,” said Robyn Gilloon, the director of the library.

In addition, there will be plenty of goods for sale. “There’ll be jewelry [and] clothing — the typical vendors,” Burak said.

Local groups will also be performing, such as Leaman Place, a band comprised of Lynbrook High School students.

“I’m super excited,” said Brandon Maroney, 16, the band’s lead singer and guitarist. “It means so much to be able to play something like this.”

Admission into the Expo is free and refreshments will be served.
