A woman who was attempting to park in front of the Long Beach Surf Shop on Park Avenue Thursday jumped the curb, hit the building and injured a pedestrian, officials said.

Long Beach Fire Chief Joe Miller said the collision occurred at around 12:25 p.m. near the intersection of West Park Avenue and National Boulevard.

Police Commissioner Mike Tangney said the 62-year-old Long Beach resident was backing into a parking spot and hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes.

“She hit the curb and a bike rack [which] hit a 26-year-old female and drove the bike rack into the building,” Tangney said.

The pedestrian, who is also a Long Beach resident, suffered a shoulder injury, Tangney said, and was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital’s emergency department in Long Beach.

Miller said the collision caused minor damage to the outside of the surf shop and the driver’s car.

“There was no structural damage [to the building],” Miller said.
