Local children enjoy sunny Easter egg hunt and parade on the beach

Hundreds of eggs lined the sandy Hewlett Point Park Beach on a sun-soaked day on April 9 as the Cape Cod Homeowners Association hosted its annual Easter egg hunt.

Preceding the hunt, about 100 to 150 children and their parents marched in a parade, which was led by the Easter Bunny. Children decorated their wagons and bicycles and met at the parade’s starting point, which was at the corner of North Boulevard and Hewlett Point Avenue.

Susie Pezzello Travia, the president of the board for the Cape Cod Homeowners Association, said the turnout was better than expected. She added that the association has been putting on the egg hunt free of charge and providing the goodies for at least 10 years. She noted the association hopes to make it bigger and better next year and plans to continue to have a parade since this year’s was well received.

“They really enjoy it,” Pezzello Travia said of the children. “They have a great time. They love the Easter Bunny that comes and it’s all in good fun. It’s a free event for the neighborhood.”

Once the parade reached the beach, children started hunting for the nearly 1,200 candy-filled eggs that were on the sand. “It’s a really feel-good event,” Pezzello Travia said. “For us, it’s so successful.”
