Another water filtration plant in Malverne?

Malverne residents are invited to attend a New York American Water meeting tomorrow at 11:00 am to discuss the temporary — and eventually permanent — construction of another water filtration plant in Malverne.

The water company, which owns a parcel of land surrounded on all four sides by homes on Cornwell Ave., Legion Pl, Linden St., and Maple Ave., is seeking a special exception hearing in order to place water filtration tanks outdoors — and eventually build a structure around them.

The land parcel measures approximately three quarters of an acre, and according to county records, the water company has owned the land since 1965.

Residents interested in attending the meeting can access the property, which has no street address, through a driveway located to the right of 549 Cornwell Ave.

Water company representatives Richard Kern and John Fitzpatrick will be leading the meeting, which is for informational purposes only. All Malverne residents will be alerted to the special exception hearing when it happens, Mayor Patricia McDonald said.
