Kate Murray won’t run for Congress

Posted

Ending weeks of speculation, Kate Murray, the Town of Hempstead supervisor and a Levittown Republican, announced Friday that she will not run for Congress this year. Murray’s name had been discussed recently in local and national political circles about who will be the Republican Party’s candidate in New York’s 4th Congressional District. Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola), who currently represents the 4th District, announced earlier this month that she will not seek reelection.

Murray made the announcement via a press release that Hempstead spokesman Michael Deery sent to reporters after 5:30 p.m. Friday.

“Committed to a job I love and focused on completing tasks on my agenda as Hempstead Town Supervisor, I am not a candidate for the United States Congress,” Murray wrote. “I thank town residents for their ongoing support, and appreciate the kind words of those who encouraged me to run for Congress.”

“At the same time,” Murray continued, “I look forward to helping elect a Republican candidate to the House of Representatives in the 4th District who will help revitalize our economy, create jobs and control taxes and spending.”
