LIRR is Operating On or Close System-wide

LIRR is operating on or close to schedule systemwide. Earlier this evening, service was temporarily suspended due to an unauthorized person on the tracks being struck by a train at Penn Station.

**** Update 6:48 p.m. *****

LIRR is operating on or close to schedule out of Penn. However, there are residual delays of up to 20 minutes east of Jamaica due to congestion cause by an earlier suspension of service due to an unauthorized person on the tracks being struck by a train at Penn Station. NYCT is still honoring LIRR fares in both directions on the 7 train between Woodside & Times Square, the E train between Jamaica & Penn and the 2/3 trains between Penn and Atlantic Terminal.

***UPDATE 4:50 P.M.***

As of 4:50 p.m., limited eastbound service has been restored on the Ronkonkoma, Port Washington, Port Jefferson and Babylon branches of the LIRR, the MTA said. Westbound service remains suspended between Penn Station and Jamaica, due to an unauthorized person on the tracks at Penn Station, according to the MTA.

LIRR fares are still being honored on the No. 7 train, E train, and No. 2 and 3 trains.

An “unauthorized person on the tracks” at Penn Station forced the MTA to suspend service on the Long Island Railroad between Penn Station and Jamaica in both directions as rush hour began on Thursday evening.

With service between Long Island and New York City suspended as of 4 p.m., the MTA said the subway system will honor LIRR fares on the No. 7 train between Woodside and Manhattan, the E train between Jamaica and Penn Station, and the No. 2 and 3 trains Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal.

There is no estimated time for LIRR service to be restored.
