MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast said at a press conference last month that the agency was already making contingency plans, as part of a 270-day time clock to negotiate under the federal Railway Labor Act, which could force unions to push back the strike until July.

“We have to be prepared if that were to occur,” Prendergast said. “… But only if all other means fail to result in a collective bargaining agreed deal.”
