Lost valuables returned to Malverne family

Barbara and Don Brady had recently bought a new bedroom set, and wanted to sell their old one, so they put an ad on craigslist. Several weeks later, it was purchased by a Bronx woman, who bought the entire set for $165 — and that was that. Or so they all thought.

Two weeks after the transaction, the Bronx woman, Agnes Felix, took out the drawers of one of the dressers and discovered a plastic bag filled with several gold jewelry pieces, old coins, and sentimental mementos the Bradys had lost track of long ago. Without missing a beat, Felix phoned the Bradys and immediately got in her car and drove back to Malverne.

“I thought I had checked every drawer, making sure I took everything out,” said Barbara, adding that she was awestruck that the woman was kind enough to drive back to Long Island to return the items she found. “It renews my feelings of how great some people are.”

In addition to a gold necklace containing diamonds and precious stones, Felix had discovered earrings, wedding mementos from Barbara and Don’s 1977 wedding, and a coin collection dating back to the early 20th century. “The coins were given to my son when he was 10 years old by his grandfather, who is no longer alive,” said Barbara. “He was looking for them.”

The Bradys, who wanted to do something special for Felix in return, offered dinner at a nice restaurant and other things, but Felix declined. Karma, however, wasn’t letting Felix walk away unrewarded. After leaving the Brady home, she had stopped to play Mega Millions — and won $500.
