Malverne College Day

Posted

Malverne High School once again joined forces with Howard T. Herber Middle School to host the district’s annual College Day celebration, which featured dozens of special events and projects to get students in grades five to 12 seriously thinking and planning for college. One of the main events was a college fair that gave students in grades seven to 12 an opportunity to speak one-on-one with admissions officers from a host of private universities, SUNY schools, technical training schools and community colleges. The younger students were given a questionnaire to fill out to guide them in their college explorations.

Each day leading up to the college fair featured special activities to get students in the college spirit. The hallways were decorated with college banners, and students and teachers sported their favorite college apparel.

At the middle school, teachers discussed their college experiences with fifth- and sixth-graders, taking students on virtual tours of their alma maters, and recounting their college application and acceptance processes. Fifth- and sixth-graders participated in a college sports unit in their physical education classes. In addition to visiting the college fair at the high school, seventh- and eighth-graders took part in a study abroad lesson in their foreign language classes and made college logos in their art classes.
