Melissa Etheridge is ready to rock Long Island on Friday

The free-spirited rocker-singer-songwriter brings her 2013 Summer Tour to the NYCB Theatre at Westbury. The Grammy-winning guitarist -— known for her signature raspy, smoky vocals — will perform songs from her current album, “4th Street Feeling,” along with her many hits. Among Etheridge’s numerous honors, she was named ASCAP’s Songwriter of the Year Award in 1996, in 2001 and had her own star placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011. “The Walk of Fame, the Women’s Museum, the milestones, they made me go, ‘I did it!’” she says. “And I’m still doing it. I feel I’m at the peak of it.”

MidSummer Magic
The acclaimed ensemble Dance Visions NY graces Nassau County Museum of Art’s lush lawns with a special outdoor performance, “MidSummer Magic: Zeus’ Garden.” Actress Shirley Romaine narrates this production, inspired by the legendary dancer and choreographer, Isadora Duncan, who brought a new naturalism and a classic Greek aesthetic to dance in the early part of the 20th century. Directed by Beth Jucovy, the program is designed to appeal to the entire family.

Nature Communities Walk
Explore Garvies Point Preserve on a guided walk with a naturalist. The program highlights three diverse habitats that are home to many different types of plants, trees, birds, and wildlife: woodland, meadow, and pond. Bring binoculars to glimpse the many songbirds that call the preserve home. While there, stop in at the museum, where the nature film “MicroCosmos” will be screening. Marvel at a pair of stag beetles dueling like titans amid the thunderous clashing of their horns. Witness an amazing transformation from caterpillar to butterfly and other minute miracles of life. Film showings are at 11 a.m., 1 and 2 p.m.
