For people are dead as a result of a horrific one-car crash in Malverne on the westbound shoulder (north side) of the Southern Parkway.

The crash happened before 4 a.m. Monday between exits 17 and 18.

One occupant of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital, condition unknown.

The State Police are conducting an investigation and the parkway was closed westbound between exits 17 and 19 for several hours on Monday morning. Police reopened the road at about 10 a.m., six hours after the accident.
