The McDonalds endorse Murray for Nassau DA

Malverne Mayor Patricia McDonald, together with her husband, New York City Police Detective Steven McDonald, announced their endorsement this morning of Town Supervisor Kate Murray for Nassau County district attorney in Malverne's Reese Park.

"I feel very strongly that she's the right person for the job," said the mayor during the press conference. "The fact that Kate is supported by the Nassau County PBA sends a strong message to me that she supports our police, and our police need our support." The mayor's son, Conor, is also a police officer in New York City.

Det. McDonald was shot in the line of duty 29 years ago in Central Park, leaving him paralyzed. Since, he has served as a noted public speaker on behalf of the NYPD and other organizations, and is well-known for his discussions on violence and forgiveness.

The mayor, who is crossing party lines in her endorsement, said it was not a decision she took lightly. "I feel comfortable with my decision," said the mayor. "I think that's one of the problems with government. When you're elected, you're elected to serve the people, and it shouldn't matter what party you're in."
