‘We have to be hopeful’
Donovan Berthoud/Herald
Robert, Pamela and Andrew Bach supported the committee’s cause.

The committee has a series of upcoming fundraisers, including a car wash at Malverne High School on Sept. 8 from noon until 4 p.m., and a Zumba exercise event on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at the middle school. One of the bigger events in September, Genti said, will be a concert with American Idol finalist Robbie Rosen on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at the middle school.

Committee members said that while it will be a challenge to raise funds, the group will continue to find ways to connect with the community in order to reach its goal through a variety of communications. It even plans to work with village officials to utilize Malverne’s TV channel for advertising. A PayPal account set up for donations is also in the works.

“This is a great group,” Genti said, “and we’re optimistic about meeting our goal.”
