‘Midsummer Weekend’
Old Westbury Gardens is adorned for a summer celebration, decorated and illuminated by lanterns and whimsical decor, with musical interludes. Stroll the blooming gardens and listen to the lively sounds of a jazz band on Friday, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday’s program, beginning at 6:15 p.m. a dance performance by dancers from Lori Belilove and her acclaimed Isadora Duncan Dance Company on Westbury House’s South Lawn, based on the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, with music by C. W. Gluck.
Friday, and Saturday, June 26-27. Registration required for Midsummer Jazz on Friday, which costs $25. $15, free for children 17 and under when accompanied by an adult. Bug Bonanza
Things are getting buggy once again at Long Island Children’s Museum. “Bug Bonanza,” the annual program exploring the amazing lives and natural history of insects, spiders and other creepy crawlers, takes over the museum on Sunday. Entomologists from Lynbrook-based Arrow Exterminating are on hand to guide families through an exploration of insect life as everyone participates in a various hands-on activities. Create bug-related crafts, participate in activity challenges and even enjoy a tasty treat made with edible creatures. Also take an entertaining and educational expedition through the insect world with an Arrow entomologist, in “Good Bug/Bad Bug,” at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Find out what makes a bug good or bad, helpful or dangerous. Examine the fascinating lives of various insects including subterranean termites, carpenter ants and black widow spiders.

Woods, Hills and Meadows Hike
Enjoy the vibrant colors and delicate scents of seasonal wildflowers on a guided hike through Muttontown Preserve. Surround your senses as you explore trails, upland woods and meadows to seek out the over 30 species of flowers that can be found in full bloom.
