The East Meadow School District was named one of the best in the state according to Niche.com, which released its annual rankings of best schools and districts just in time for the new school year.

East Meadow earned the title of 56th best district in New York, 41st for athletes and the 49th school with the best teachers. It received an “A” in academics, an “A-” in diversity, an “A+” in teachers, an “A” in college preparation, an “A” in clubs and activities and a “B+” in health and safety.

Niche scores its schools and districts based off of data from the U.S. Department of Education, test scores, college data and ratings collected from the website’s users. Niche assigns a standardized score for each factor, which is then weighted before an overall score is calculated for each school and district. Some districts, however, are disqualified from receiving a final letter grade if there isn't enough data. School districts are then ranked numerically and assigned grades.

The highest-ranked school district in New York and on Long Island is the Jericho School District, which was also ranked 12th in the nation.
