Snow in Island Park

Snow falling across Nassau — 3 to 5 inches predicted

Posted

Snow started falling across Nassau County around 10 a.m. on Saturday, and by noon an inch to two inches had already accumulated. The National Weather Service was predicting three to five inches of the white stuff, with potentially higher totals on the North Shore.

The NWS said to be prepared for potentially hazardous driving conditions, particularly because wet leaves combined with snow could make for slippery roads.

The NWS recommended that drivers lower speeds and be prepared for reduced visibility during the storm.

A Winter Weather Advisory was in effect for parts of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York, including all of the Island, through Sunday morning.

In Island Park, village officials reported that by 2 p.m. they were on standby for snow removal. Mayor Michael McGinty said Department of Public Works staff were on call "watching and waiting."
