The Merrick Chamber of Commerce celebrated in style on Jan. 22 at its 80th annual Installation Dinner at Chateau Briand in Carle Place, during which the chamber’s Man and Woman of the Year were celebrated. The chamber recognized two longtime community volunteers –– Neil Yeoman and Betty Lippai. The Merrick Herald Life, published by brothers Cliff and Stuart Richner, sponsored the awards. more

Plans for an overhaul of the Merrick Mall Stop & Shop have been delayed for so long that some its neighbors can scarcely believe that construction work is now under way. Nevertheless, they say, the chain-link fences, heavy machinery and men in neon vests and hard hats outside Stop & Shop are good signs, and they look forward to seeing the work completed. more

The Merrick Chamber of Commerce’s annual installation dinner last Thursday was a time to honor both the organization’s incoming officers and Board of Directors and a longtime Merrick institution –– Merrick Life, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2013.
