Ambulances sat Thursday afternoon outside Camp Avenue School in North Merrick. A boiler in the school leaked "black smoke," according to the North Merrick School District. School officials called 911 "as a precaution," said North Merrick Superintendent David Feller.

15 at Camp Ave exposed to ‘black smoke,’ taken to hospital

Ambulances rushed one teacher and 14 students Thursday afternoon from Camp Avenue School in North Merrick to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow due to possible carbon monoxide poisoning. All 15 were evaluated at the hospital and released, according to NUMC spokeswoman Shelly Lotenberg. more
