As far back as 1993, there was talk at the highest levels of government of consolidating Long Island school districts to save money and provide greater resources for the Island’s poorest districts. That debate is likely to be resurrected . . .

The New York State Board of Regents announced on Dec. 12 that it would be requesting a $1.6 billion increase in financial assistance from the federal government for the 2018-19 fiscal year— $0.5 billion less than year’s request.
