Posted

Nassau County police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in Merrick Monday at 6:35 a.m.

The robbery took place at the Mobil gas station, at 1589 Merrick Road, a quarter-mile east of the Meadowbrook Parkway, across from the Town of Hempstead’s Clubhouse Road park. An African-American male, in his 20s or 30s, wearing a blue, hooded sweatshirt, walked in and demanded money, according to police. The 45-year-old male behind the counter complied. The suspect then drove off west on Merrick Road and north on the Meadowbrook Parkway in a maroon Nissan Rogue.

No injuries were reported. The incident did not appear to be part of a spree of armed robberies that has plagued Nassau County in recent weeks, a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

Anyone with information about this crime should call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
