Bellmore-Merrick Special Education PTA to host disabilities workshop

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Special Education PTA will host a workshop on technology-related assistance for individuals with disabilities on April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Merrick Avenue Middle School’s auditorium. The presentation will feature Randy Young, an assistive technology administrator for TRAID and education outreach specialist for Long Island Parent Center. Topics to be discussed include:

n What assistive technology is and an overview of what role AT can play in the classroom, workplace and the community.

n What questions are considered in the assessment process, as well as the various ways in which AT can enhance instruction, attention, organization and self-management.

n What resources are available to assist participants in furthering their understanding of AT.

n How the iPad is one example of an accessible AT device that can improve student outcomes.
