Bellmores to elect fire commissioners

Posted

Bellmore and North Bellmore residents will have the chance to choose the newest members of their fire districts’ boards of commissioners in elections to be held next week.

In both the Bellmore and North Bellmore fire districts, two candidates will be on the ballot on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Richard Holzhauer is challenging incumbent Robert Angrisani in Bellmore, while former chiefs Robert Bazarewski and Edward Kraus are running for a seat on the North Bellmore board.

The North Bellmore Fire District takes in parts of East Meadow and North Merrick, in addition to North Bellmore.

Angrisani has served on Bellmore’s board for the past decade, and has been a firefighter for more than 20 years. The Mepham High School alumnus is also a state fire inspector.

Angrisani said that he is proud of what he and the board have accomplished, which he said includes improving communication with taxpayers, “injections” of new technology in the department, training initiatives and the purchase of new equipment without raising taxes. If re-elected, he said, he would like to build on past accomplishments.

“I have considered it a true honor to have served our great community for the past 10 years as commissioner,” Angrisani said. “My vision for the Bellmore Fire District, should I have the privilege of being re-elected, has several components.”

He explained that, if elected, he would ensure that the board continues work on municipal purchasing cooperation, facility investment and securing grants to update lifesaving equipment.

Holzhauer, who has lived in Bellmore for 14 years, is an Air Force veteran and a member of the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores. He said he has experience in balancing a budget while providing “exceptional service,” having owned a plumbing and heating business for 33 years.

“I am committed to keeping spending down within the district while continuing to provide the highest quality of fire suppression and emergency medical services,” he said.

Holzhauer explained that he has two top priorities for the district. He would like to see all fire trucks standardized and electronic ambulance call reports developed, because, he said, this would make the processing of patients and information more streamlined and accessible to emergency services.
