Calhoun and Kennedy play on home turf

Posted

Students, faculty members and public officials recently celebrated the grand unveiling of new synthetic turf fields at Calhoun and Kennedy high schools.

All three of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s high schools –– Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham –– had artificial-turf fields installed this summer after voters approved a $49.89 million bond that included $6.5 million for new fields. The middle schools –– Grand Avenue and Merrick Avenue –– will have turf fields added in the near future.

Students and parents hit the stands for the festivities on Sept. 20 at Kennedy and one week later at Calhoun. The Kennedy Cougars lost to the Elmont Spartans, 31-0. The Calhoun Colts beat the Herricks Highlanders, 34-7.
