Chabad day camp’s a blast for preschoolers

Posted

The first day of kindergarten may be around the corner for some Bellmore-Merrick preschoolers, but dozens have had an eventful summer at Camp Gan Israel, organized by Chabad of Bellmore-Merrick-Wantagh.

The camp, which Chabad operates at 2083 Seneca Gate in Merrick, offers water play, music, yoga, sports, science, challah baking and instruction on Jewish heritage for children, age 2 to 5. Chanie Kramer, Chabad’s program director said warm and experienced staff members facilitate the activities and major children feel comfortable.

“The camp’s warm and experienced staff…create a loving and nurturing environment where every child is made to feel special,” she said. “Through the special activities, and even during free play, the counselors seek to bring out the unique creativity and imagination in each child.”

Campers also enjoyed special trips throughout the summer. The youngsters visited institutions like the Long Island Children’s Museum, Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve and White Post Farms, Kramer said.
Mini Gan Israel, a project of Chabad and Maimonides Educational Center, is licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and is part of the largest network of Jewish summer camps in the world. Chabad representatives said Camp Gan Israel enjoys a fantastic reputation as a trendsetter with innovative ideas, creative programs and new activities, where Jewish children of all walks of life learn to love their heritage while enjoying the best experience that camping offers.
