Cougar Pride roars at Kennedy

Posted

Kennedy High School students and teachers received recognitions on June 11 at the school’s annual “Cougar Pride” awards ceremony, which celebrated 12 exemplary students and the teachers who impacted their education the most.

A faculty committee selected the students from among more than 40 nominees for the awards. The 12 recipients went “above and beyond for the Kennedy community,” making a positive difference in the school and larger community, according to a Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District press release. Each award winner was allowed to invite their favorite teacher to be honored alongside them. Kennedy Principal Lorraine Poppe and Assistant Principal Eileen Connolly spoke about each student, and the students in turn spoke about the lifelong impacts that these teachers had made on them.

Cougar Pride award student recipients included Gary Anderson, Jack Babbush, Rachel Calagna, Rebecca Jellinek, Briana Krackow, Madison McGlone, Sean O’Donnell, Benjamin Rabinowitz, Andrew Sheehan, Emily Silverman, Brandon Simon and Rachel Weintrauib. Teacher recipients included Keri Andree, Briand DeGaetano, Barbi Frank, Sara Gant, Elissa Germaine, Matthew Grasso, Allen Ma, Chris Mammone, Dennis Ringel, Christy Rochford, Jennifer Sapir and Frank Sansanelli.

“Tonight, the spotlight is on the young men and women who will be honored for their role in making Kennedy High School a very special place and the teachers who have made a difference in their lives,” Poppe said. “On behalf of my fellow administrators, I congratulate both the Cougar Pride recipients and the teachers who have helped to guide them. You are all truly remarkable, and I thank you for making a difference.”
