Fond memories for Mepham seniors at graduation

Posted

More than 300 Mepham High School seniors looked back on their fondest memories over the past four years while looking forward to the future at their commencement last Sunday.

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District held three separate graduation ceremonies at the NYCB Theater in Westbury on Sunday, June 28. Families from North Bellmore and part of North Merrick flocked to Mepham’s commencement, where they heard from several accomplished student speakers and watched hundreds of teens receive their diplomas.

Senior Class President Kara Ognibene acted as the emcee for the ceremony, introducing speakers like Principal Michael Harrington and Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Board of Education President JoAnn DeLauter.

Valedictorian Anand Bradley and Salutatorian Jane Kogan were met with rounds of applause after delivering their commencement addresses, and fellow senior Jaime Marvin also spoke. Marvin, a poet laureate, won first place at the regional level of Poetry Out Loud, a nationwide competition that encourages young people to learn about the art form and to master public speaking through memorization and recitation.

Audience members cheered on the proud graduates as they received their diplomas. Outside of the theater, family and friends embraced them and posed for photographs.
